Norway

Norway, a Scandinavian nation in Northern Europe, has a long history rooted in the Viking Age and later emerged as an independent kingdom following the dissolution of its union with Sweden in 1905. Today, it is known for its strong democratic institutions, maritime heritage, and high standard of living.

Norway has produced a distinguished and highly regarded range of postage stamps. Early issues featured King Oscar II and later Norwegian monarchs, while subsequent designs celebrated the country's dramatic fjords, Arctic wildlife, maritime traditions, and achievements in exploration. Norwegian stamps are especially admired for their elegant engraving and exceptional printing quality.

The country uses the Norwegian krone = 100 ore, introduced in 1875 as part of the Scandinavian Monetary Union, and it remains Norway's official currency today.

This commemorative stamp, issued in 1991, marks the 350th anniversary of the founding of Kristiansand, which was established by King Christian IV of Denmark–Norway in 1641.
